A7FL 2015 Week 7: Can Baltimore Overcome Injuries & Travel To Pull Out Victory

In two short weeks the A7FL Regular Season will be coming to an end and for many teams this week marks an extremely important day off as they heal and get players back in their line up that has been missing for several weeks.

However, on Saturday, two teams fail to get a bye when the Baltimore Cobras travel back to New Jersey to take on The U from Paterson.

The Cobras are sitting stoutly with six wins and one loss on the season, their only loss coming at the hands of BIC the last time they made the trip north to New Jersey. Their 6 – 1 record is something they have in common with The U who are also sitting at 6 – 1, similarly losing to BIC gives them the only negative mark on their record to date.

Both teams are coming off solid victories, the U just beating their arch rivals Savage from New Jersey in a 28 – 0 rout….

The Cobras will be making their second trip to New Jersey in the last couple of weeks. There last trip didn’t end so well for them as they went home with a crushing 44 – 20 victory at the hands of BIC. The Cobras who have been known for their power football from both sides of the ball failed to maintain momentum in the game after taking a quick 14 – 6 lead after the first quarter. The Cobras were certainly short handed in the April 18th loss as John “Ace Boogie” Gause JR and Jawaun Lipscomb among others missed the trip.

The U is firing on all cylinders right now. Despite the turmoil experienced in the teams first two games this year they have bounced back strong and a lot of that can be attributed to the rise of Quarrel “Huff” Huffin at quarterback. #11 Huff plays the game with speed and elusiveness that we haven’t seen since the early days of his teammate Kareem Moon a few years back. Huff, has all the intangibles you want in a quarterback and the mental and physical toughness to match. Hard to take down, Huff reminds me of a Marcus Mariota with his phenomenal ability to extend plays with his feet but keep his head down field in the event he needs to get rid of it.

Huff can’t do it by himself though, with guys like Kareem Moon #3, Joel Rivera #19 and #1 Air Jamaica they are making it look easy out there. However, it’s a veteran by the name of TJ Brown #23 who is outshining them all on the offense. Brown has scored in three consecutive weeks, finding the end zone twice this past week against the Savage and has six touchdowns on the season. Brown is your prototypical go up and get it type of wide out. Tall and solid, Brown makes it difficult for even the leagues best to guard him with an exceptional ability to box out anyone going up for the ball.
