The A7FL playoffs began with a bang this weekend as the Wild Card round provided some wild results for some of the A7FL’s cornerstone divisions.
On Saturday night, the DC Buzz after locking in the ninth seed would travel to Florida to battle Mark Bagway and the Tampa Nightcrawlers.
With Tropical Storm weather pushing up the coast, these two teams thrived on offense, as both teams piled on the points in a game that didn’t end without a fair bit of controversy as the DC Buzz would fall 54-38.
Now for the first time in their two year history, the NightCrawlers will play an A7FL Playoff game on neutral ground as they come to Abessinio Stadium in Wilmington, Delaware to battle the second seed, Baltimore Rare Breed in a battle of two Quarterbacks that are looking to prove that they belong in the same conversation as reigning MVP Quatrelle Huffin and MVP candidate and 2021 Rookie Of The Year, Sterry Codrington.
Speaking of Huffin, the defending MVP and his back-to-back title-holding teammates on the Paterson U looked in championship form on Sunday, as they played the Baltimore Hit Squad in an Elite Eight clash on home turf in Asbury Park.
After falling to the Trenton BIC in the NorthEastern Championship game, some critics were wondering if the Hit Squad had a small chance of making the 2020 and 2021 champions look more human.
They were wrong.
Huffin had a dominating day behind center, throwing for over six touchdowns and setting a breakneck pace that the Hit Squad could never catch up to as they would fall 58-6, locking The U in as the first team in the National Final Four and will play the winners of the Rare Breed and Tampa NightCrawlers next week.
After weeks of smack talk, the Vegas Force did something no west coast team has yet to do in the eight seasons of the A7FL, and that’s come across the country and beat an east coast team on their own turf.
Following the Shnow Tribe sending the Covington Heist out of the running with their now-infamous “Shnow Tribe formation,” they looked to prove that teams coming into the Garden State will have to run through them.
The Vegas Force and their high-powered rushing attack led by Anthony “RTC” Richardson, would melt the Shnow Tribe in the former’s first appearance on national television.
Now the Force will have seven days to plan and strategize for what will be their toughest challenge to date, the Trenton BIC.
What will happen when the most dominant team in the A7FL faces the aggressive pass rush and run game of the Vegas Force? Will the Force just be another name on the list or will the Force stifle Sterry Codrington, Ashante Worthy, and the most dynamic offense in spring football?
We answer those questions and more this Sunday live from Abessinio Stadium for the A7FL Elite Eight, with games LIVE ON STADIUM at 1 pm and 4 pm et and a special 7 pm Sunday Night Football showdown on the A7FL YouTube channel.
