The A7FL Season Gets Underway On Sunday, March 26 and It’s Comin’ Out Hot Right Out of The Gate.
This week’s 3-on-1 podcast began the countdown to the A7FL 2023 campaign’s season opener on March 26 with a big reveal: the regular season matchups for the league’s ninth season.
Hosts Matt Ryan, “Big” Rob Fabien, and Cory Hammond dug deep into the league’s seven-week regular season (followed by national playoffs) with a special focus on our Games of The Week telecasts set to air on A7FL.TV and in particular Week 1.
Our first Week 1 matchup at 1 PM ET will see one of the cornerstones of the A7FL – the Paterson U – featuring a new look offense in a face-off against the Rahway Shnowtribe.
This battle between two 2022 playoff teams will be the first test for the ShnowTribe since signing veteran QB and broadcast personality Cory Hammond. Looking to build off not only that move but also the support of NFL All-Pro Buffalo Bill OT Dion Dawkins, another playoff-bound season is not only their goal but some would say the expectation for the veteran squad.
Despite being one yard away from their third straight A7FL Championship in four straight appearances, the Paterson U’s off-season has been one of change including the retirement of defensive stalwart Mo Ramadan and the departure of multiple-time A7FL MVP Quatrelle Huffin for the Silk City Animals.
Rumors are swirling about MVP caliber quarterbacks making the drive up I-95 to suit up with the U, alongside a litany of players on both sides of the ball looking to make a Northeastern “super team,” but until this squad lines up across from the Shnowtribe on March 26th, we’ll be left wondering what surprises await us. Stay tuned – a team with this pedigree should attract some serious talent.
Our second game of the afternoon features the defending A7FL Champions the star-studded Trenton BIC back onto the field to face an East Orange Renegades team determined to play spoiler in week one.
The Renegades’ already formidable offense – featuring the towering Deondre “Megatron” Haynes, one of the most dominant tight ends in the league – has been retooled with a Championship in mind with the addition of not only former BIC Quarterback Corey Price but also standouts Khaleel Greene and Mike Liberti.
Across the field, the BIC look to build on their 2022 Championship with A7FL legend O’Lay Bell joining an already stacked BIC defense that features 2022 Rookie Of The Year Alex Verardi and an offense helmed by MVP Sterry Codrington and OPOY Ashante Worthy. Can the talent pipeline curated by the team’s leadership of Kenny Stansbury and Carl Meisner deliver a repeat champion?
Our final game of the first Sunday of the A7FL’3 2023 season is a piece of league history: for the first time, the West Coast will host a Game Of The Week broadcast as defending A7FL Nevada Champions the Vegas Force face the Vegas PitBosses, the team they beat in last season’s playoffs to earn that honor.
The PitBosses have been focused on building on their near miss from last season. They entered Nevada’s 2023 pre season Fall Brawl and won a competitive championship game against the expansion Kryptonite franchise. League observers now consider the PitBosses, with a chip on their shoulder and led by Trey Robinson and Tone Smith, as one of the presumptive favorites to take the Western Conference title.
After lighting it up on special teams, offense and in the secondary, Curtis Jones, returns to The Force after becoming the first west coast team to earn a win on the east coast. Despite the Force not playing in the much talked about Fall Brawl tournament, The Force’s Quarterback Rock Briscoe has been at the forefront of claiming not only will the team be the best in Nevada, but make their way to winning their first A7FL title.
