>>LIVE GAME UPDATES<<

GAME 1 – ANIMALS [3-0] vs. BUZZ [0-3]

The DC Buzz and the Silk City Animals met in the first Week Four Game of the Week. The Buzz opened the season with three tough opponents in the Watchmen, the U and the Renegades and are looking for a signature win over the undefeated Animals.

The Animals opened up the scoring early with a long run by quarterback Quattrell Huffin who pitched it to Paul Ioannides for the opening score. The Animals had another big play developing when Huff tried to pitch to Young Bull But he fumbled, giving the ball back to the Buzz. The Buzz would capitalize on the turnover as quarterback Mark Diggs found a wide-open Keon Charles for a 43-yard touchdown, evening the score at six apiece. On the ensuing possession, Huff throws a jump ball to the endzone that ends up in the hands of the Buzz for a touchback. The Buzz would come up empty on the turnover and the Animals would drive right down the field with Hulk smashing it in from the one-yard line, putting the Animals in front 12-6 at the end of the first.

We saw our first touchdown of the second quarter from the Animals with 9:45 left in the quarter. Marquese “Oye” Marrero punched it in from the two-yard line and with a two-point conversion, the Animals took a 20-6 lead. As it looked like the Animals had all the momentum, the Buzz ran a reverse to Keon Charles who took it down the sideline for a massive 60-yard touchdown. The Animals would respond with a touchdown of their own with a Huff pass to Issic “Baby Joker” Gomez on a wheel route out of the backfield for a 19-yard touchdown, extending their lead to 26-12. But as we have seen throughout this game, the Buzz would respond with a Marty Nelson two-yard touchdown. After a failed two-point conversion, the Buzz found themselves down 8 with 2:13 left in the first half. After a nice throw-off return set up the Animals on the 30-yard line of the Buzz, Huff did only things Huff could do on a 5-yard touchdown pass on a play you’d have to see to believe. As soon as it looked like the Animals would take a 33-18 lead into the half, Keon Charles took the throw-off to the house with five seconds left in the half along with the ever-so important one-point conversion to make it a one-score game going into the half, 33-25.

2nd Half

After the Buzz opened the half with the ball, they drove down the field and scored on an 18-yard run from Marcell Nelson, but a failed one-point conversion kept the Animals in the lead, 33-32. Shockingly enough, the Animals would respond to the Buzz score with one of their own with a Huff toss to Baby Joker from eight yards out to go up 40-32. The Animals would finally stall the Buzz offense and force a throw-off to take possession on their own 18-yard line. The Animals would get two plays off to get the ball to the Buzz’s 44-yard line to end the 3rd quarter.

The Animals used the rushing attack to get to the Buzz’s 2-yard line and Huff would lazer a quick screen to Shakeem “Doodoo” McCutcheon for a touchdown, extending their lead to 47-32 with just under ten minutes left in the game. On the ensuing Buzz possession, Mark Diggs throws an interception to the Animals. This would lead to a dagger of a score from the Animals, with a Lou Shiesty 28-yard reception sets up a 1-yard Huff rushing touchdown, giving the Animals a three-score lead with 5:15 left in the quarter. The Buzz wouldn’t go away quietly, though, as Marty Nelson would return the ensuing throw-off to the Animals’ 8-yard line. Lenny Manziel would take it in for the Buzz from 8-yards out, making the score 53-38. The Animals would score one more time with the rushing attack, with Hulk taking it 31-yards for another score to help the Animals’ point differential, but the Buzz would respond with another throw-off return touchdown from Keon Charles, his second return touchdown of the day. Despite a two-score victory, the Animals had complete control of this game. If the Animals continue to play like this and Huff continues his Houdini impersonations towards a possible MVP award, they will be an extremely tough out in the 2023 playoffs. Final: Silk City Animals 60 DC Buzz 46

GAME 2 – WATCHMEN [2-1] vs. The U [3-0]

After Paterson U beat the defending champion Trenton BIC last week in an all-time classic, they now had to take on the third place team in the North East Division, the Baltimore Watchmen. This game carried major playoff implications, and it showed with the intensity on the field.

The U’s offense would start the game on the field with Carlos “Pablo” Croslin at quarterback after he suffered an injury in last week’s game. Kareen Moon would come in at quarterback on the fourth play of the drive and throw an interception to Jayquan Tilman, giving the ball to the Watchmen on their own 35-yard line. The Watchmen would drive the ball to the U’s 19-yard line, where they failed to convert a 4th and 9, giving the ball back to the U. Through both teams’ first possessions, the defenses made them work for every inch. The first quarter ended how the game started: 0-0.

Kareen Moon would throw another interception to start the second quarter, this time to Edward Jr. The U’s defense would step up and force a throw-off from the Watchmen, getting the ball back to their offense with 8:20 left in the first half. Kareen Moon would lead a methodical drive down the field, but Croslin would come back in the game to replace him at the 2-minute warning. His first pass attempt was intercepted by Sylvester Washington, bringing the first-half turnover total to three for the U. The Watchmen would get one last chance to score at the end of the first half with 1:44 left, and quarterback John Gause Jr. would throw a bomb to Marlon “Tony Toe Tap” Anderson for a 44-yard touchdown with 1:13 left in the half. On the U’s ensuing possession, Moon throws another interception, this time to Joshua “DK” Butcher, who finished the run with a mean stiff arm on Moon and the Watchmen would get the ball on the U’s 14-yard line. The Watchmen would score with no time left in the half on a Rakieem “OG Buck” Chaney 3-yard run to extend their lead to 12-0 going into the locker room.

2nd Half

After a huge final two minutes of the first half for the Watchmen, they would begin with the ball to start the second half. Gause would orchestrate a masterful drive, dissecting the U defense to set up a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Renard Weaver, further extending the lead to 19-0. The following U possession, Kareen Moon would throw twice in a row to Dekyri Mims: one for a 24-yard jump ball highlight and the following play for a 7-yard score, bringing the game back within two possessions. The score would remain 19-6 going into the final quarter of play, with the Animals on the U’s 19-yard line.

The Watchmen would score on a 30-yard pass play from OG Buck to Ant Mo to extend their lead back to three scores, 25-6. The Watchmen’s defense continued to stymie the U’s offense, forcing an incomplete pass on 4th and three to get the ball right back with 9:05 left in the game. As it started to look like the U were dead, they forced a throw-off and Deon McDaniels returned it for six, making it a two possession game again just like that, 25-12. Baltimore would respond with a score that would end up being the dagger. OG Buck threw across his body for a 6-yard touchdown to Omari Thomas, inflating the score to 31-12. The U would put up one final touchdown with 1:53 left in the game on a pass from Moon to Mims to help their net points in the standings, but the Watchmen would hand the U their first loss of the season and shake up the North East Division in the process. Final: Baltimore Watchmen 31 Paterson U 20

GAME 3 – 7:00 PM ET – PIT BOSSES [0-3] vs. HUNTERS [1-2]

Vegas Pit Bosses vs. Vegas Hunters

In our final Week Four Game of the Week, two Vegas teams fight to keep their season alive with the Vegas Pit Bosses taking on the Vegas Hunters.

The Pit Bosses would receive the opening throw-off and set up shop at their own 48-yard line. The Pit Bosses gashed the Hunters’ defense early in the drive, but the Hunters’ defense stood firm, coming up with a stop on 4th and three. The Hunters’ offense did not do anything with their first possession either, also getting stopped on a fourth down. After another stop on fourth down by the Hunters’ defense, their offense would get the ball to the Pit Bosses’ 37-yard line before the first quarter expired, with the score still tied at 0-0.

The Hunters’ first play of the quarter was a 4th and eight, and an incompletion in the endzone gave the ball right back to the Pit Bosses. The Pit Bosses’ offense managed to get just outside the red zone as quarterback Kwame “Kay Uno” Southall hopped on his bicycle and rushed for a 21-yard touchdown for the first points of the ballgame, giving the Pit Bosses a 6-0 lead. The Hunters would not go quietly, as they would score on a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Darrin White to Matthau “Matty Ice” Wilson, tying the game at 6-6. The following throw-off, Kay Uno turned on the jets and scored to give the Pit Bosses the lead right back, 12-6. The Hunters did not help themselves on the next possession, as their head coach would pick up two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and be ejected from the game. The penalties put the Hunters in a 1st and 40 situation to start the drive, though they would be bailed out by a horse collar penalty giving the Hunters an automatic first down. That same possession, the Hunters would get a 40-yard rushing touchdown on a burst from Juwan “Scooter” Felton, tying the game at 12 all. The Pit Bosses would get another chance with 1:13 left in the half, and Kay Uno delivered with a 25-yard passing touchdown to Malik Simmons with only eight seconds to play in the half. Both teams’ offenses woke up in the second quarter, but the Pit Bosses would take a 20-12 lead into halftime.

The second half opened up how the second quarter left off, with a throw-off return for a touchdown from the Hunters’ Nigel Boone to tie the game at 20. The following throw-off, Derrick Cunningham fumbles and gives the ball right back to the Hunters. Following suit, the Hunters would give the ball back to the Pit Bosses via fumble and set them up on their own 25-yard line. The very next play, Kay Uno would rush for a 75-yard touchdown to give the Pit Bosses the lead, 28-20. With how this game has gone, naturally the Hunters would score on their next possession, but they would not get the two-point conversion, leaving the score 28-26 with the Pit Bosses hanging on to their two-point lead. The Pit Bosses would drive to the Hunters’ 17-yardline, but Kay Uno threw an interception to Nigel “Peezy” Boone who returned it for a 90-yard touchdown, flipping this game on its head and giving the Hunters a sudden 32-28 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Things did not improve for the Pit Bosses to start the fourth quarter, as Kay Uno would throw another pick six, this time to a defensive lineman who would rumble and bumble all the way into the endzone, and all of a sudden the Hunters were up 40-28. The Pit Bosses would not go quietly though, as Kay Uno rushed for most of the drive and capped it off with a 10-yard scramble for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to four points. On a massive fourth and six for the Hunters’ offense, the Pit Bosses’ defense comes up with a massive sack to give the ball back to their offense. Unfortunately for the Pit Bosses, Kay Uno would throw another interception to Peezy. Fortunately for the Pit Bosses, Kay Uno would get the ball right back by picking the ball off at their own 35-yard line. The Pit Bosses had one final chance to win the game, but came up short on a 4th and 19 to give the ball back to the Hunters, who ran out the clock. The Hunters pick up a massive win to keep their playoff hopes alive at 2-2, and the Pit Bosses fall to 0-4. Final: Vegas Hunters 40 Vegas Pit Bosses 36
