Final 4 Recap – A7FL 2020 Back in Motion Tournament Presented by Salus

Paterson U 60 vs. BIC 46

The Paterson U punched their ticket to the 2020 Championship Game winning a 100-point shootout over the BIC 60 to 46 in Sunday’s first Final 4 matchup.

Ashante Worthy came up huge in BIC’s losing effort, and his 6 grabs for 71 yards and 2 return TDs sparked some life in his squad. Putting up 40 points against the U’s strong defensive unit is certainly an accomplishment, but in the end BIC couldn’t match the U’s impressive arsenal of weapons point-for-point.  With a team restocked roster and a rejuvenated attitude to match, the BIC played tough the entire game, but in the end fell short and now will have to wait until next season to exact their revenge.

The seemingly unstoppable force that is the Paterson U was once again led by their quarterback Quatrell “Huff” Huffin who has been nothing short of amazing this tourney. He leads the league in every statistical passing category over 3 games, completing 65% of his passes for 600 yards with 13 TDs against just 2 interceptions. Throughout the tournament, he’s shown supreme confidence in the pocket and spread the ball around to his playmakers in a way that defenses can’t seem to figure out, making him a strong candidate for league MVP going into Sunday’s Championship.

Paterson has surrounded Huff with so many other talented players that it’s impossible for opponents to focus on shutting just one man down. Joel “Jumpman” Rivera had a relatively quiet night against the BIC, but he still leads the league with 4 receiving TDs. And Kareen “SilkySmoove” Moon is yet another U playmaker that can give defenses fits. Wherever the explosive veteran lines up on the field, he has the ability  to change a game with just one move, or two….or three and on Sunday he was responsible for an impressive 218 total yards and 3 TDs,

It was a worthy Final 4 matchup, but the game ultimately demonstrated once again Paterson’s ability to dominate their opponents. So the BIC’s season is now over while The U moves on to face the Hawks in the 2020 A7FL Championship that you do not want to miss.

Hawks 33 vs. Renegades 14

This Final Four match-up seemed destined to go the distance, as the teams had fought evenly in Week 2 before the Hawks pulled out a late 4th quarter victory.  But in Sunday’s nightcap, the Hawks showed that they were the better team from start to finish, ultimately downing the Renegades by a score of 33 to 14.

Veteran Renegades QB Cory “The Iceman” Hammond had a strong first 3 games of the tournament but on Sunday he just wasn’t able to find his rhythm and ended up throwing 3 costly picks. The Hawks defense was also able to shut down big play threat Edy Petiote, holding him to just 50 receiving yards. And while Dondre “Clowney 2.0” Haynes demonstrated amazing athleticism all game long, with 2 catches and 3 sacks on the night, it just wasn’t in the cards for the Renegades as they ran headfirst into a motivated, high-powered Hawks squad.

Hawks QB Corey “CP3” Price is a living A7FL legend who has proven to be a great offseason addition. Sunday he was not only 8 of 14 with one TD in the air, but also gained his 53 yards and scored 2 TDs on the ground. In addition to CP3’s dual threat, the Hawks’ backfield boasts utility knife Mike “Sweetness” Liberti to help put points on the board. Liberti has not only rushed for 175 yards in the tournament but he’s also caught 2 TD passes and played defense (where his tackles often seem to be clutch touchdown-savers).

Khaleel “MambaStackzz” Greene is a veteran presence who adds yet another high speed weapon to the Hawks’ explosive attack. He’s 4th in tournament receiving yards with 3 touchdowns, but his contributions don’t stop there. On defense, he leads the league in passes defended and interceptions, one of which he took to the house against the Renegades this past Sunday. Plus, MambaStackzz is an absolute monster on special teams and he leads the league with 11 returns for 317 yards and 2 TDs, with one game-changing show-stopping sprint to the endzone that left the Renegades players shaking their heads on Sunday.

Overall, Sunday’s game saw a superior Hawks squad dominate the Renegades who just didn’t have the firepower to keep up.  Now the Hawks look to keep their momentum going behind CP3 and his go-to guys in next Sunday’s ultimate test against the Paterson U. This match-up seems like it was written in stone from the very beginning of the tourney, so tune in and watch the A7FL’s 2020 undefeated powerhouse teams duke it out for the Championship.
