Games of the Week Recap

BIC vs. Cobras

A late fourth-quarter touchdown proved to be all the difference in the world for Trenton BIC as they narrowly defeated the Baltimore Cobras 13-12 in a thrilling opening day game.

The Cobras struck first on a wildcat play from #187, catching the defense off guard on a quarterback sweep to make it a 6-0 game.  Quarterback Rakeem “Nuck If You Buck” Chaney nearly made the conversion, but Cobras receiver Anthony Diaz dropped a perfectly placed pass.

Trenton responded within moments. During the throw-off return, BIC star Ashante Worthy would dash through defenders on his way to a touchdown to tie the game 6-6 in the second quarter. The Cobras would force an incompletion on the conversion to prevent BIC from taking the lead.

Diaz would make up for the dropped pass in the third quarter with a touchdown reception from #187, beating his man on a deep route. Failed conversions would continue to hurt the Cobras as Dashuan Dorsey dropped a wide-open pass, making it a 12-6 lead for Baltimore.

However, Worthy once again left his mark on the game at the most crucial time. The former NJ HS Player Of The Year received some terrific blocks downfield, scrambling for over 70+ yards to score the game-tying touchdown with just 24 seconds remaining in the game.

But the play of the game might’ve come from BIC’s Kason Campbell on the 1-point conversion. Worthy would once again line up a quarterback, scramble to his right, and heave a prayer to Campbell who just barely got his toes inbound to convert the extra point to win the game.

Riding a huge wave of momentum, Trenton BIC will face a strong New Jersey Savage team on April 18th at 6:30 EST.  The Cobras will be competing on that same date against the Baltimore Gators at noon EST.

Savage vs. Hawks

The New Jersey Savage rushing attack proved to be too much as they rolled to a 24-12 victory over the Old Bridge Hawks in Asbury Park, NJ.

The Savage jumped out to an early 12-0 lead in the first half, which included a throw-off return touchdown and a passing touchdown from Rashod Knight to Olajuwon “Olay” Bell.

The Hawks were shorthanded for most of the game as the quarterback position was shared between star running back Mike “Sweetness” Liberti and Paul “The Greek Freak” Ioannides. Star running back Khaleel “Mamba Stackz” Greene did make the trip to Asbury.

While their passing attack was limited throughout the game, their running game finally got going as Ioannides would score a rushing touchdown in the 4th quarter to cut the Savage lead 12-6.

The Savage would reclaim momentum as Rashod Knight would score two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.

Both teams will be competing next on April 18th. Old Bridge hopes to bounce back against the Spanktown Boys with the throw-off starting at 4 p.m EST. The Savage will be aiming for their second victory of the season against Trenton BIC at 6:30 p.m EST.
