College Ball Is Over. You’re Not Ready to Hang Up the Cleats.
You still have the itch to strap up and hit somebody.
Local flag leagues feel like recess. Semi-pro leagues are unorganized chaos. You’re searching Google for adult tackle football leagues near me because you want real competition, real film, and a real stage.
Welcome to the American 7s Football League (A7FL).
Full contact. No helmets. No pads. Broadcast live on DAZN, YouTube, and the Creator Sports Network (CSN), with national championship prize money topping $20,000.
Here is the unfiltered blueprint of what coaches and scouts actually evaluate and what will send you home early.
1. Nobody Cares About Your 40 If Your 10-Yard Split Is Trash
The A7FL field is a full 100 yards long by 37.5 yards wide. There are only 14 total players on the turf.
There is no 22-man box to hide in. If you take three steps to decelerate or have stiff hips, you’re getting exposed on national television.
What Scouts Watch For:
- First 2 Strides Are Everything: Scouts don’t care about a track 4.4 forty if your first 10 yards are slow. Can you plant your back cleat, explode downhill, and close the cushion in two steps?
- Short Shuttle Fluidity (5-10-5): If you round your turns or take extra gather steps, you won’t survive playing man-to-man coverage.
- North-South Velocity: The field is 15.8 yards narrower than traditional football. East-West dancing might get you tackled for a 4-yard loss. Plant and get upfield.
2. No Helmets Means Zero Lazy Tackling
In high school and college, players get away with bad tackling because hard plastic helmets act like battering rams.
In the A7FL, you don’t have armor to hide behind. Coaches have zero patience for helmet-first habits.
Under official A7FL Football Rules, disciplined wrap tackling is strictly enforced:
- Eyes on the Belt Buckle: Track the runner’s near hip. Don’t bite on head fakes.
- Head Placement: Head stays behind or to the side of the ball carrier’s hip. Never across the bow.
- Mandatory Arm Wrap: If you throw a blind shoulder charge without wrapping, it’s an immediate 15-yard penalty and an express ticket to the bench.

3. Position-by-Position: What Gets You Signed (or Cut)
Quarterbacks: Get the Ball Out in 2.5 Seconds
- The Reality: You only have two down offensive linemen. There is no running back chip-blocking an edge rusher.
- The Rule: The ball has to leave your hand in 2.2 to 2.8 seconds. If you hold it for 3.5 seconds, you might be on your back.
- What Wins: Rhythm, anticipation, and velocity on boundary seam routes.
Receivers & Running Backs: Win in 1-on-1 Space
- Clean Route Breaks: Rounded cuts give DBs an easy interception. You need sharp 90-degree plants.
- Catching Over the Middle: Can you look a slant into your hands when you know a safety is closing fast?
- Securing the Rock: No plastic shoulder pads mean ball security must be high-and-tight through contact.
Defensive Backs: Pure Island Survival
- Zero Help Over the Top: In 7v7, you will play bump-and-run with no deep safety bracket.
- Short Memory: You will get beat occasionally. Scouts watch how you react on the very next snap.
Linemen: Hand Combat, Not 300-Pound Stalemates
- Fast Hands: You’re locked in a 1-on-1 pass rush battle on every single snap.
- Number Control: Grasp inside the numbers. Reach outside the shoulders, and the referee is throwing yellow.
4. The 48-Minute Reality Check: Are You Actually in Shape?
Here is the quickest way to fail an A7FL combine: gassing out in the second quarter.
In the A7FL:
- No Kicking: Touchdown → immediate 1-point (5 yd) or 2-point (10 yd) conversion → straight into a 3-on-1 throw-off.
- Zero Dead Time: Ballers regularly play both offense and defense.
- Total Mileage: You run nearly double the total yardage of a standard semi-pro game.
If you are sucking wind after four series, your technique breaks down, you commit penalties, and you miss open-field tackles.
Get off the bench press and hit the turf. Sprints, shuttle runs, and high-intensity interval conditioning will keep you on the field.
