A7FL: Football by the People, for the People

Meet Octavious Walker:

Entrepreneur & A7FL Investor

Since its inception in 2014, the A7FL has attracted athletes with one thing in common: love of the game. And despite the league’s growth, it’s stayed true to those roots. Players must have more than talent, they need to possess a burning passion to step onto the gridiron on Sundays and compete at a high level in a full contact sport after a long work week (and with Monday morning fast approaching). That raw emotion and that fact that anyone who has the skills and the desire can play make the A7FL strikingly genuine – and new fans and investors are taking notice.

Last year, the A7FL launched its StartEngine equity crowdfunding campaign, it’s first outside fundraising. Despite a pandemic-delayed season, to date the campaign has raised more than $370,000 from nearly 600 individual investors. As the league prepares to enter its 7th season, this unique fundraiser offers fans around the world the first-time opportunity to invest at the ground level in a football league correctly billed as “by the people, for the people.”

Octavious Walker, one of the league’s new investors, truly embodies the league’s spirit. Currently stationed overseas with the United States Army, Walker discovered the A7FL by chance while watching football highlights on social media.

“It reminded me of how we would play growing up,” said Walker. “I think that it’s definitely a sport that a lot of people can relate to who love the game.”

Walker also owns his own clothing line, POIZD, and brought his entrepreneurial spirit to the league when he jumped at the opportunity to invest.

“I’m excited to see where the A7FL goes from here,” he commented.

“We’re incredibly grateful for our StartEngine campaign and the overwhelming belief in our sport,” said A7FL Co-Founder and President (and former player) Ryan DePaul. “It’s great to see so much enthusiasm for the A7FL by fans, players and now investors – like Octavius – who share our passion for our unique brand of grassroots football.”

DePaul also highlighted that the league has allocated its new funding to areas that will aid the rapid growth of the sport, adding marketing, sales and press relations expertise. And since its debut on StartEngine, the league doubled in size to 32 teams, introducing 2 new divisions in the major sports markets San Diego and Orlando. In addition, the 2021 season, beginning on April 11, will feature a $20,000 purse – the largest prize American 7s has ever offered. “This growth wouldn’t have been possible without our new investors,” concluded DePaul.
