As the A7FL Welcomes the 9th Division to the League for 2022, Meet Lawrence Brown

As we prepare for the A7FL’s 8th season, we’re excited to introduce our fans to some of the key players behind the scenes. Meet Lawrence Brown who has recently come on board as the division owner of the league’s new Washington, DC division. Brown, a former Air Force Academy football player, later served as an Air Force officer prior to getting his MBA and starting several entrepreneurial ventures.  He’s definitely a man on the move and eager to make things happen in the A7FL.

We recently caught up with Brown to learn more about his vision for the league and what fans can expect:

 

What made you want to be an A7FL Division owner?

I always wanted to start my own football league, for players that still had a love for the game.  While attending the Sports Capital Symposium hosted by Monumental Sports & Entertainment and SportTechie, I met A7FL Advisory Board Chairman David Issacs.  The A7FL logo under his name had caught my attention and I reached out looking for advice.  It turned out to be a blessing and now I own the DC Division in the A7FL.

Do you have any background in sports?

I have been a student of sport for most of my life and I have played some form of football since I was a child.  In the military, I was on my unit’s flag football team, a consistent contender for the base championship.  In college, I was privileged enough to play a year of collegiate football, in addition to intramural rugby, softball, and boxing (I even had the good fortune to box the NCAA boxing champion in one of my first matches).  I also enrolled in the Master of Science in Sports Management (MSSM) program at George Washington University in Washington, DC because I wanted to learn more about my passions, business and sports.

Why do you believe you have a great market for an A7FL division?

DC loves sports! It is where some of the best talent in the country got started; Kevin Durant, Katie Ledecky, Sugar Ray Leonard, Grant Hill, Stephon Diggs, Vernon Davis, and on and on.   When you combine that kind of potential with the nation’s 9th largest sports team market size (2.566M homes), it creates a lot of opportunity.  Additionally, both MGM National Harbor and the DMV’s legalization of sports betting provide additional avenues for growth.

What are your goals over the next 3 years?

I want to provide fans with a quality football experience for their families and communities.  I also want to develop a strong regional fan base, as well as leverage the international presence in the DC area. My ultimate goal is to illustrate why the DMV is a football breeding ground by bringing the A7FL championship trophy to DC.

Do you have names for any of your teams picked out?

Since Washington is the nation’s capital and thus holds a significant role across the world, I think it is important to pay homage to its history.  Several names are currently under league review, and I believe fans will connect with our final selections..

What do you think the future holds for the A7FL?

The future is bright for the A7FL’s fast-paced, action-packed, and hard-hitting entertainment that resonates with fans across all generations.  There are a lot of football fans that remember playing this style of football in their backyard, neighborhood field, or even the street as little kids.  I also believe that younger generations are looking for something exciting that can fit seamlessly into a world clambering for their attention.  I believe the A7FL’s strength is its ability to be innovative, flexible and adaptable, unlike established leagues overcome by tradition and expectations.
