The A7FL 2022 Season Was A Historic One Including Expansion, New Broadcast Partnership, Elevated Game Production and Big Plans For 2023

American 7s Football’s Eighth Season Was Special, With So Much More on the Horizon.

A7FL Championship

And how could it not be? Following a year when teams from Florida and California joined our ranks, the league was poised to take another expansion further as teams from Nevada, Washington DC, and Cincinnati joined the league.

Whether it was the DC Buzz looking to assert themselves in one of the league’s toughest divisions, including eventual playoff contenders such as the Baltimore Rare Breed and the Baltimore Gators; midwest teams like the QC Crush and the Covington Heist giving the more experienced Florida teams some trouble on the road, or the Vegas Force taking their division in a surprising turn with victories over both the Santa Monica Vibe and the Los Angeles Aces en-route to a Cinderella journey to the Elite-Eight.

There was also the changing of the guard.

In 2021, the Trenton BIC featured a team focused on winning a championship and going all in on the untested combination of WR/returner Ashante Worthy and QB Sterry Codrington.

And after falling to the Paterson U twice in both the division title game and 2021 A7FL Championship, the BIC could have completely retooled, or they could have doubled down and made a run with the team they already had.  They chose the latter.

From week one, the BIC were still led by their sophomore duo of Codrington and Worthy, but they also adjusted their lineup, moving A7FL legend and power runner Courage Mozie to a tight end slot.  Adding his confidence and ability to wear teams down to Codrington and Worthy’s dangerous skills and exceptional speed, the BIC decimated their opponents – including defeating the defending champions U three times – as they finished the 2022 season undefeated and took home their second A7FL Title.

Not only was the season exciting with some “best A7FL game of all time” contenders and highlights that dominated social media, but many more fans were also able to see the league live as our Sunday Games of the Week package moved to Sinclair Broadcast Group’s Stadium Sports Network in the US and was aired on FITE TV internationally.

Planning is already underway for 2023.  The league has launched a second equity crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine enabling fans old and new to own a part of the A7FL. And our expansion continues with new markets already committed for next season, new venues in existing markets, and additional distribution partners.

And through it all, the A7FL continues to be a sport built from the ground up by players who love playing football. As the NFL’s demographic gets older and older and other Spring football leagues come and go, American 7s, with its core audience of 18-34-year-olds,  is positioned to be the future of the most popular professional sport in the country.
